Brachiosaurus altithorax is a large herbivorous sauropod that lived in North America during the Late Jurassic.
In-Game[]
Description[]
One of the most recognizable dinosaurs in popular culture, Brachiosaurus is possibly the most famous member of the sauropod family, rivaled only by Brontosaurus. Having been named for the size of its monstrous humerus, or upper arm bone, Brachiosaurus's legs are longer than a human is tall. It is one of the largest sauropods known among the family.
Brachiosaurus has a unique silhouette compared to other sauropods in-game, with its very vertical posture making it a truly striking presence.

In-Game Trivia[]

Nigel Marven
You can't get a much more classic dinosaur than Brachiosaurus.

This is the iconic high-browsing sauropod, feeding on nutritious leaves and branches way up in the trees. These beautiful creatures can eat around 400 kilograms per day, so I better go check to see if our latest food delivery arrived on time. If not, we might have a bit of a problem!

Brachiosaurus is a sauropod, a type of herbivorous dinosaur with a tiny head at the end of a long neck. The largest animals to ever walk on land were sauropods, but not all of them were so gargantuan: For instance, Europasaurus grew just over 6 meters long! Which, to be fair, is still VERY large.

Look at the size of this magnificent animal, the way it moves about with the grace fit for a giant… It's a real privilege to be able to cherish these beautiful creatures!
Paleontology[]
For almost a century, Brachiosaurus was thought to be the tallest dinosaur, standing at up to 18 meters in height. Due to this immense height, paleontologists thought that Brachiosaurus would not have been able to support itself on land, and thus believed it to be semiaquatic, living in swamps and marshlands. However, this has since been disproven due to the discovery of air sacs throughout the animals body.
Brachiosaurus altithorax is found most prominently in the Morrison Formation, a Late Jurassic geologic fossil formation found in the western region of the United States. A variety of well-known dinosaurs have been found from this region, including Allosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Torvosaurus, Stegosaurus, Dryosaurus and other Jurassic sauropods, such as Camarasaurus, Apatosaurus, Brontosaurus and Diplodocus, with these creatures simply being the tip of the iceberg regarding the wide diversity found in this region.
Paleoecology[]
Due to its diet of being a high browser, Brachiosaurus developed an exceptionally long and vertical neck, enabling it to eat the highest of leaves from the tallest of trees, much like a modern day giraffe. In comparison to many of the other sauropods it lived with, like the low browsing Diplodocus, Apatosaurus and Brontosaurus and the medium browsing Camarasaurus, Brachiosaurus enjoyed access to vegetation that was untouched from any competition.

Trivia[]
- Brachiosaurus was featured in the Early Access Announcement trailer and was included in the Early Access version of the game at launch.
- The "Russet" skin has stuck with Brachiosaurus for some time, having been planned to be included ever since the initial concept art for Brachiosaurus's inclusion in Prehistoric Kingdom first came out.
- When in sufficiently deep water, Brachiosaurus and Argentinosaurus will have their hindquarters float up in a bizarre looking swimming posture. This is based on real fossils as there is a set of sauropod swimming tracks that shows a sauropod walking along the bottom of a body of water using only its front limbs with its back limbs floating closer to the surface.
- Following its appearance in the Jurassic Park franchise, Brachiosaurus has enjoyed a constant spot as one of the most iconic dinosaurs ever, having potentially eclipsed Brontosaurus as the perceived standard form of sauropod.
- Brachiosaurus was confirmed to appear in Early Access on February 18th, 2021, being the second sauropod confirmed to appear.
- Most traditional reconstructions of Brachiosaurus historically have used Giraffatitan as a basis for basic anatomy, such as Jurassic Park and a variety of toylines and other forms of media.
