"Meet Ceratosaurus! This short but sturdy animal is defined by the three horns on its face, sharp teeth and the row of osteoderms running across its back."
Ceratosaurus is a medium-sized carnivorous theropod that lived in North America and Europe during the Jurassic. Ceratosaurus is represented by the species C. nasicornis in Prehistoric Kingdom.
It is yet to be added to Prehistoric Kingdom.
In-Game[]
Description[]
Compared to other theropods, Ceratosaurus has a largely typical body plan, with strong powerful legs, small stocky front limbs and a large skull when compared to it's body. Ceratosaurus' most notable feature is the bony horn at the end of its nasal, with another pair situated right above its eyes. Its legs are notably shorter than many of its contemporary competition, such as Allosaurus or Torvosaurus, giving it a more squat and stout appearance.
Another notable feature of Ceratosaurus is the row of osteoderms, or little bony knobs, running down its back and sides, which function as a protective layer of natural armor not usually found on theropods.
Management[]
To be announced.
Paleontology[]
Although is speculated what Ceratosaurus' horns were used for, paleontologists debate over the possible function, from defense to intraspecific combat, however, most paleontologists agree that they were most likely display features.
Ceratosaurus was named in 1884 by American paleontologist Othniel Charles Marsh and its name means "horned lizard".
